2004 Champions Ride Rodeo, Home on the Range Results and photographs from the 2004 Champions Ride Rodeo.
Jesse Bail, Camp Crook, SD, found himself winning big at the 48th Annual Champions Ride held Sunday, August 8, at the Home On The Range Arena near Sentinel Butte, ND This was not his first trip to the annual saddle bronc match that supports the residential childcare facility, but the first time he was the title winner. He picked a great year to do it! For the first time ever, in addition to the other awards, the overall winner of the Match received a beautiful trophy bronc saddle handmade by Trent Taylor of Sidney, MT and co-sponsored by Rollin’ Rock Angus and Gartner-Denough Angus also of Sidney. Taylor donated all the labor. An unseasonably cool day with a blustery wind couldn’t keep the bronc riding fans away from their traditional August event. They saw some great top hands –former world champions and NFR qualifiers as well as a few home-town favorites aboard bucking horses with just as many credentials of their own brought to Home On The Range by Powder River Rodeo, Brookman Rodeo Company, Shane Franklin and Big Circle. These contractors help keep the top cowboys coming to the Match, knowing they will be getting on great stock. The roster sheet held names like Dan Mortensen, Tom Reeves, Rod and Denny Hay, Adam Newman, Matt Marvel, Red Lemmel Scott Johnston, Cody Martin, Jesse Bail and many other fine hands. Glen O’Neill, one who seldom misses the Match, was at home nursing an injury, but plans to be back on the road very soon. Some of these hands drove all night to get to there and flew off, with just minutes to spare, to their next rodeo. Home On The Range thanks ALL the cowboys who make time in their hectic schedules to attend the Match and support Home On The Range. The ladies barrel race is always a fast and colorful event with Britta O’Keefe of Landsford making a clean sweep this year, winning the first go, the short go and the average. It is a great addition to Champions Ride showing these talented ladies and their beautiful, athletic horses. The rodeo was bittersweet for many, having been dedicated to the memory of Jim Tescher. Many family and friends were in the crowd in honor of his memory and of all he contributed to the match over the years. The final go round, or short round was permanently renamed and dedicated to the memory of Jim and in honor of Tom, Jim’s brother, also an avid saddle bronc rider and very involved in Champions Ride and HOTR. The following excerpt is from that dedication:
It was a great day. Another one for the history books and when the tallying is done, all proceeds from Champions Ride go to benefit the children at Home On The Range. The support of all our wonderful sponsors, contestants, contractors and all who attended is greatly appreciated.
Rodeo Dates for
2005 are August 7 at 1:00 PM (Mountain Time).
